IKEA 101

ok, so we've all been there. You've gone to IKEA for a new piece of furniture. You hoist the heavy flatpack up the stairs. You collapse on the floor, open the manual and grab the allen key, now what...
Kudos to Erik Johansson for this visual treat.

Very timely. Introducing the dow jones hanky.
The fabulous DesignGlut ladies just came out with a new product: Dow Jones Hanky. Embroidered with the graph of the Dow Jones from the past 5 years, 2004 to 2009. (Custom pieces also available. For $95, they’ll embroider the graph of your stock portfolio.)

Unite the States of America

Liking this a lot, clever, minimalist design. Aaron Allen, Creative Director at Wieden+Kennedy, designed this *amazing* poster for Obama’s campaign titled Unite The States Of America. Simple, powerful, beautiful.

Branding the Recovery

Not a big fan of this logo, way too busy. What happened to keeping it simple.

You might have noticed that Recovery.gov is sporting a new logo. The top half of the circular design is given over to eight flag-evoking stars against a slate blue field and, notably, the "recovery.gov" website tag. The bottom left quadrant sports what looks to be a pea sprout against a kelly green background, and the bottom right has a pair of mechanical gears against a deep red backdrop.Mode Project, the Chicago firm that did the consistent design work that branded the Obama campaign as a well-oiled machine, crafted the logo

Periodic Table of Typefaces

Next time I meet w/a client, I'll just have them pick from this clever chart. You want fries with that?
